This was my 2nd murder mystery party. I was a bit concerned b/c I nearly doubled the amount of characters involved from when I did my first one!

I did this close to Halloween and so EVERYONE came in costume! It was so great!!

The suggestion to have the guests bring food as pot luck was such a great idea! My first party I catered it as well and I was so broke! LOL...

I didn't read through everything so near the end, people were coming up to me and asked me what was going and I honestly could say I had no idea. I was pleasantly surprised!

I love the idea to have other murder weapons for side murders along with the main murder. And the spell cards were a riot!

I couldn't bear the fact that anyone that died during the game couldn't really participate n e more because I didn't have extra characters to give out. So I made them "spectral beings" that stayed to solve the main murder. But to spice things up... I told them if anyone comes to you to ask who your killer was or to help "a friend from the living realm" figure out your murder so you can rest in peace they could only do it via "dead charades" but no pointing directly who you killer was.

They also did lose the ability to use weapon cards but if they weren't completely stripped of all other possesions then they could use money and Spell cards!!

I gave out the awards you suggested and I also added a few:

Criminal Mastermind: For manipulating and fully deceiving the masses to get away with your wicked deed.
Great Gumshoe: For using exceptional snooping skills to solve the murder(s) during the party. Then I left a spot to write down which murder they solved.

We did have a winner (Super Sleuth) and they got a gift card to the movies and a small trophy.
There were 4 side murders and 2 people figured those out. My "Great Gumshoes" got magnifying glasses.
Wealthiest Player got a gold dollar sign necklace.
I had Best Actor/Actress and they got a flower bouquet and Best Costumes (male and female) got sewing kits. All awarded got their choice of chocolate or mini shots and paper awards (complete with gold seals!)

And since it was Halloween... all other guests got little goodie bags of candy and little toys we use to get when we were younger and went trick or treating.

It was crazy fun!! I will definitely get a game from you again!!

Looking forward to the picts!

I am with you on the pot luck thing. That is the only way for someone short on time and and funds to feed everyone. I also find that our guests just LOVE to bring dishes and show off their specialties and skills.

Things can get crazy, but it is in a good way, not an out of control way.
