May 2009 Contest Entry

Postby mroscoe5 » May 8th, 2009, 12:15 pm

My sister and I were trying to come up with a fun and creative way to have fun while she was in town for a visit and set up an easy Breast Cancer fundraiser for our upcoming 3 Day, 60 mile Komen walk in Denver. She thought a theme party sounded fun and we found this website with some great ideas. We immediately loved the 1920s theme and set off sending invitations and coming up with a menu. For theme colors we used hot pink and black. We used the links on the website to develop a five course menue complete with ravioli and spinich dip cracker canapes, waldorff salad, chicken a la rose and bbq ribs with potatoes au gratin and asparagus with hollondaise. We wrapped up with mini cakes and cookies and ended with gelatto. Martinis, mixed drinks, pink lemonade, beers with Drum brew labels for 4 Dueces, and soda pops were served.

After the first big murder of the night things calmed down for a little bit, guests scattered to hunt for murder weapons, and once the guests had finished finding murder weapons, dinner was served. Dinner was buffet style so the guests could choose between chicken or beef, but most of the guests were so wrapped up in their characters and playing the game that it took more than an hour for everyone to get their dinner plates. We also had four tables set up as poker tables with the 4 Dueces logo, a deck of cards, dice, and chocolate poker chips, and the tables were full of games all night.

Don Wannabe was killed almost immediately after dinner started and the mayhem continued. After Don was wacked, Sly Sleaze was knocked off shortly followed by Rhett Bumbler.

The night was going so well, nobody wanted to stop and after four hours we wrapped up by handing out the voting cards and announcing our winners. The Inspector won the Best Actor, only one person, Rhett Bumbler, was able to solve the murder, Mary Toosteal won best costume, and Mayor Blumpkin ended the wealthiest.

Best Actor, and he won by a landslide!
People went around and shared there secrets and a smaller crowd stuck around for a few more drinks and to help us clean up. The party was such a success, with more than 30 people and more than $750 raised for the Komen 3Day that night. Everyone is ready for another murder mystery and we are working on selecting a good theme for an outdoor barbeque so we have more room.
