We hosted 'Murder at the 4 Deuces' this weekend as a house warming party. I've never hosted a murder mystery before so I was a little unsure what to expect. I needn't have worried. Everything was so clearly explained step by step that planning was soon underway. We choose the 4 deuces as the 1920s theme gave us the opportunity to get dressed up and right into character. Since we're based in England, we opted for the download and it worked perfectly.

Choosing which characters to assign each guest was great fun and The Capo and The Baroness were both so believable that soon enough, all the guests were settling in to their roles.

I took a back seat on the night, choosing to play the hostess/ bar tender rather than a character so I could make sure it all ran smoothly. Getting to watch the events unfold was magical. The characters are so well written that the storyline progresses very naturally.

There were three murders in all on our night, including the scripted one. As morbid as it sounds, I was hoping for extra murders to happen so I couldn't have been happier, but I was so surprised by the people did it!! Al Capone tried to kill Don Wanabee but he had the immunity card, which made for an interesting plot twist.

We also chose to have a casino at our party, which was a great success. Money exchanged hands a lot through the evening and there was a real sense of competition to be the wealthiest player.

When the evening wound down, the inspector read the solution and only one guest had guessed the murderer. A few had suspected, but the murder was able to throw them off the scent. The reveal of secrets at the end was fantastic. People were shocked and surprised by the clues they'd missed.

From the moment I bought the game, till the last guest left, we had a wonderful time. I cannot recommend this game enough and we look forward to hosting Murder at the Four Deuces 2, in the summer next year.
