February 2012 Winner - Murder at the 4 Deuces 2

Postby aimee50 » February 8th, 2012, 9:09 pm

We were all really excited to reopen the 4 Deuces. We had about 12 people last year, and not all of them were returning this time so we changed most of the character assignments. We ended up with 19 people (one person couldn't make it last minute because of transportation problems) and everyone had a blast! (We host parties a lot, but this is the first one that we have gotten 3 separate thank you messages from guests talking about what a great time they had.) I decided to just focus on being a host this year instead of playing a character, and just told everyone that I was an employee of Don and Meme. (Which got a few raised eyebrows from the people familiar with the story from last time, ha ha!)
The game started off with 45 minutes of mingling/ figuring out the other characters backgrounds and secrets while we got the sit down dinner together.

The girl's outfits were the bees knees
I went around and subtly started turning of the extra lighting in the room and blew out a few candles that had been lit. Then, Don and Meme Wannabe got the attention of the guests for a speech, when the lights went out!! We dropped some very large textbooks in the dark and got a lot of gasps from guests. When the lights came back on, someone was lying dead on the couch!!

Murder at the 4 Deuces!
The guests all received their confidential information packets and sat down to dinner. After we were done eating, the inspector stood up and presented the evidence he had collected, and announced that the killer was one of the people at the party!!

evidence
Everyone then participated in solving the clues to find some extra murder weapons (some interesting alliances were struck) and drew for action cards. One of the murder weapons was hidden so well, no one found it- so I slipped it out to a more obvious place where it was quickly pocketed by an enterprising guest. Then the madness began. Everyone was busy having secret meetings (and listening in on the secret meetings) and generally being sneaky.

clandestine meeting
There was a long time before anyone else was murdered, but then in a shocking move the inspector sold two weapons (on his quest for wealthiest player) which were quickly used to kill Mayor Bumpkin, and then Bugsie (we changed him to a girl) and Wiess soon followed.

Weiss Guy is dead!
Guests were uneasy and looked to the inspector to ease their minds, when he met his untimely demise in the kitchen!!

The inspector dead?!?
However, upon closer inspection, we discovered that the murder weapon was actually a check and not a weapon at all, so the Inspector came back to life.

not a weapon card
At this point, we wrapped things up and the inspector presented the solution. We gave out prizes for people who got all of the murders correct, and the wealthiest/best dressed/ best actor. Everyone ate some more and reluctantly headed home after an amazing evening!

The Gals

The only mishap that occurred was that I did not read the solution before the party, despite just playing a host. So when the person playing the killer approached me and asked if they were guilty (after being forced to tell the truth by the inspector) because they weren't sure, I just said "Your confidential packet will tell you if you are guilty". They decided they were not the murderer, but it all worked out okay. (The inspector was just very confused).
