Four Deuces Tame

Postby danielj2705 » January 18th, 2012, 4:43 pm

Hiya,
I am thinking of purchasing the Four Deuces (Tame) pack but I have quite a few questions before as I have previosluy purchased another Murder Mystery pack of off another website and it did not turn out a sucess due to the pack itself, I had to spend countless hours redesigning it would be greatly appreciated if you could answer these to put my mind at ease :)
1) Why is it rated 16+ when it is tame, the event I am thinking of holding is for 14 year olds, they are fine with violence but is there anything else I should know about?
2) Is it all 'scripted' or is there some knowledge/logical thinking needed?
3) How easy is it to work out?
4) How much Money is supplied (in the download pack, I can print some off) Will I need an expansion pack to suppply 10 people with good quailty money?
5) What if using the weapon cards someone kills the killer? What happens if they also kill another very important character?
6) Can the inspector be killed? I understand he is a main part required for the end?
7) How many pages are there
8) Is it a PDF file?
and finally....
9) How easy is it to change? I am thinking of not tellign anyone but Don that it is a murder mystery, I am going to say you must work out a big secret at the party and I was thinking of giving out the background info at the party itself. This way It is a complete suprise and shock to everyone but me and Lewis (Don) and this adds to the 'severity'? Will this work? If no, do you have any differnet suggestions?

Thanks a ton in advance! It will be greatly appreciated :)

I will try my best!

1) Why is it rated 16+ when it is tame, the event I am thinking of holding is for 14 year olds, they are fine with violence but is there anything else I should know about?

I could not rate Murder at the Four Deuces Tame just because of the setting. There are gangsters during prohibition. There may be mention of booze or other topics that were going on at the time. It is mostly booze mention that gave it the rating though. Churches are large customers of mine and if I were to rate a game clean that mentioned alcohol, even if it was in relation to the times, they would rip me a new one. I once made the mistake of having a clean rating for a game that had a character in it whose sister died 20 years ago and it was discovered she was pregnant. But as she was in college and unwed, this customer went ballistic about unwed pregnancy even being mentioned. It did not matter that it was not an actual character in the game, just the past relation of one. That taught me to be extremely careful about my ratings. It is almost impossible to get a clean rating from me now :D

Personally, I would have no issue with my 11 year old doing the tame game and probably not even the mature, as our games always handle mature content in a very sophisticated way. It is never raunchy or ugly.

2) Is it all 'scripted' or is there some knowledge/logical thinking needed?

We DO NOT script our games and you don't want one that is. Those are terrible! Each guest gets a background, which may have things for them to do, then after the murder they get a Confidential booklet. This will tell them their secrets, things they know about others and things they need to say or do. All of these are done in their own way and time. Our games play like a real party. People mingle and talk to each other. They don't sit around a table taking turns reading cards. This game has been played by MANY teen groups and always been a success. In fact, if you read the reviews and the contest entries, you will most likely see several that are teen groups.

I would also suggest you go to the game page and download the free sample. In it you will get a Host Guide, which will give you a very good idea of how the evening will run. You will get a sample character background and confidential also, so you can see how those are done.

Our game will allow your teens to play as little or as much as they want. Imagination and drama in at least a couple kids does make it better, but still not a requirement.

3) How easy is it to work out?

If you mean the murder... easy and not so easy. It takes a certain type of person to solve murders. Not everyone has the eye for detail. The evidence points to the murderer, but most people don't bother to really see it, if they even look and the reason for this is that everyone is having too much fun scheming their own schemes to really bother to investigate the murder. Happens all the time!

4) How much Money is supplied (in the download pack, I can print some off) Will I need an expansion pack to suppply 10 people with good quailty money?

In the download pack, you can print as much as you want to. Just make sure to give everyone the same amount. In the box sets, the money is prepackaged, 1 package for each person. Each individual package has $100's, $50's, $20's, $10's, $5's and $1's. I am not sure of the total though.

5) What if using the weapon cards someone kills the killer? What happens if they also kill another very important character?

First, weapon cards are not done until after the murder, food and evidence is presented. That is already almost half way through the evening. The murder can be solved just from the evidence alone. In our games, no one is too big to die. Or the bigger they are the harder they fall! Each time someone dies, the guest returns as another character. This will bring in new intrigue and information, so in fact, this helps the game instead of harming it.

6) Can the inspector be killed? I understand he is a main part required for the end?

He can be killed, but he usually isn't. But, if he is, you can have him come back as an inspector called in to investigate the murder of the investigator!

7) How many pages are there

Hmmm, A LOT. Each character booklet has (4) 2-sided pages to print and a 1 page 2-sided confidential That is just the start. There is a complete list of contents on each game page. That should give you a better idea of what you will need to print. When I say game page, I mean the main page on our web site that features that game. You would get to it form the left column menu.

8) Is it a PDF file?

If you buy the download, it does come in pdf's

and finally....

Sorry, but none of that will work at all. First, you cannot change anything in the game without taking the chance of messing it up. Don't worry, this game really is the best murder mystery game on the market, so you will not need to change anything.

In addition, these are pdf booklets. Not changeable.

The kids should all get their character backgrounds before the party so that they can costume and also read through their booklets and get a good understanding of what will be happening and how to participate. Going in blind would not be fair to anyone. My suggestion is always going to be to run the game just as it is written. Follow our instructions. We have an RSVP system, which will allow you to send invites and character backgrounds via email. This always helps.

Thanks a ton in advance! It will be greatly appreciated

You are very welcome!

WOW!!! THAT IS AMAZING!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANWERING ALL THE QUESTIOSN FULL IT HAS HELPED A TON!!!!!!!!

I straight away went and bought it and spent hours reading through it all (dont worry I am the host :)

this game really is the best murder mystery game on the market

YES IT IS!!!! It is the best murder mystery game I have ever come accross!! I can definitly say that you, Mary, are the best murder mystery writer EVER!!! The intricay (sorry for the dodgy spelling) and detial is amazing! I find it highly unlikely that this will be the last game I buy from this website as I have found my haven for murder mysteries!!

It is worth every penny and more!!

I would recomend it to anyone!

The only downnote I would say is that I did not get any certificates included in the pack. I saw the note about calling a number but unfortunatly I am in the UK and I belive that is an American number so I will not be able to call. If the certificates cannot be retrieved, please do not hassle, I am buying trophies for the prizes and I really cannot deduct from the amazingness of this pack!!

Thank you again!

Hello Daniel,

Thank you so much for your glowing review. As for the Certificates.... read the Host Guide through and you will find the link to download the Certificates. We do this for 2 reasons. The file is large and being separated makes downloading the game easier and this also insures that the host reads the Host Guide! This is very important to hosting the game, so it is our little trick to point out to those that tend to scan (I am guilty of this myself:), that you really need to read the Host items thoroughly or you might miss something important!

More than you know skip over it, although it is possibly the most important document for a host to read. We get this question almost everyday and have thought of just adding the certificates back into the game, but then we remember why we removed them in the first place. I got a scary phone call from a customer who hosted a game that went all wrong. She was yelling and so angry with me. I could not imagine how that could happen. Our games just work... unless someone doesn't follow the instructions. After I finally calmed this person down, we were able to establish that she never read her Host Guide. She gave everyone both their background and confidenital before the party and people talked about secrets outside the game and some forgot the Confidentials, of which she did not have a back-up! I had to scratch my head and wonder how she felt justified in calling and yelling at me like the problem was my games.

So, the Certificates stay a link in the Host Guide because I never want to experience that again! We would rather deal with someone looking for them and us point out how important that small booklet is, than to have another party gone bad because it got missed.

Have a great party and I look forward to seeing your review!

Hello Again,

That would've been scary! If it were me I would have ended up shouting back at her (Probably not the best thing to do :)
I will definitly make sure my party doesnt go bad as I wouldnt want to not do the game justice ( plus I have the reputation of throwing great parties :D).

Thank you for all your help again

I took a lot of deep breaths to stop myself from yelling at her and then to actually have to calm her down when I was irritated took all my social skills and then any I might get in the future!

Be sure to post a review and photos when your party is through in our contest area and you might win your next game free! I would love to see it.

All my social skills wouldnt have been enough

I will definitly post a review the only problem is that the part is...welll.... In May :)
I plan them well in advance as my year went like this, Finish 13th Birthday party, Straight away start thinking about Halloween, Finish Halloween, and then instantly start thinking about Christmas party (for which I made my own Murder Mystery 8) ), Finish Christmas, Immediatly start thinking about 14th :D

So it will be a little while before I post the review but I definitly remeber too

I am gonna go extravagent on decorations so these are some websites that can help others if they want.
http://www.partyrama.co.uk/mcp/Casino_Party_Theme.html

http://www.partypacks.co.uk/20s-decorat ... 15990.html
http://www.partyexplosion.co.uk/Categor ... Theme.html

These are all UK websites and I have ordered of off all of them before and they are all good quality if anyone wants a review :)
