Download or boxed

Postby kestrelspl » June 20th, 2007, 2:02 pm

Just to clarify two things:

1. Is the downloaded game identical to the boxed game except that I print off the material.
2. Should the game be printed on card or paper

download vs boxed

The box and download basically are the exact same materials. Here is a breakdown of the pros and cons of each. Much also depends on your time frame.

I must first make it clear, that despite the $20 difference in price, the box set will be cheaper in the long run. In the box we print everything for you. In addition, we print certificates on parchment paper, name tags and Organizing labels are printed on peel and stick labels, over 40 booklets are folded and stapled and game money is pre-packaged for easy hand out.

The download game will take you about 2-3 hours printing, (This is true of ANY murder mystery download game on the market, you will use a full set of printer cartridges and more than 200 sheets of paper. The $20 difference we charge is just our cost of production, and we get our materials at wholesale cost. We do not make any profit with the box over the download, but we always suggest going with the box, as it will actually save you time and money. Shipping is the actual cost. We do not pad it in any way.

You should also know that even if you purchase the box, you can get started on everything immediately through our rsvp system, which is free for customers. From there you can send invites, track rsvp's, print the Host Guide and Guest List Worksheet (to assign characters to guests) and you can send character backgrounds to your guests or yourself.

The other side of the coin is that materials tend to disappear or get torn during a party. Thus, if you plan to use it more than once, you have two options:

1. Buy the download version and print at your convenience for any party.

2. We also have added the ability to buy a Box Replacement from the store. It costs $20 for the box replacement, which will still be cheaper and more time saving than printing for another party. You will need to provide us your Order Id# from your original box order, when you order a replacement.

I hope this helps you to make the decision that will work best for you.

Re: Download or boxed

UPDATED 2011.10.20

Here are a couple questions & suggestions I have:

1. Question: If you purchased the "Download" version, are you still eligible to purchase the printed material for the additional $20? Answer: Yes. You can choose to upgrade from a download to a box kit, or you can get a box replacement for a previous game.

As a suggestion; you could make the "Boxed" Set to also include immediate access for download, and also have a "Printed" version add-on for the "Download" version.

2. Suggestion: I purchased the Mature version of The Four Deuces because I would prefer to have the full unedited version as it was intended. However, it would be nice if the Mature version also included the Tame version so one may give a younger player attending the party a Tame version of their Character. Is there any way to arrange this without repurchasing the Tame version?

3. Suggestion: I have not yet had the pleasure of solving the Mystery of the Four Deuces so I am not sure if this is possible in anyway, but it would be nice if there were several solutions that could be used so the game could have a different outcome each time it was played. I know that what is in the Confidential Booklets probably play into the solution, in which case they would need to be changed too. If this is the case, if a game requires 10 players, then there could be 10 different outcomes. Of course there would need to be 10 sets of Solutions & Confidential Booklets (i.e. Solution "A" "B" "C"...matching Confidential Booklets "A" "B" "C"...etc.). This way the host would not always know the murderer each time the game was played. Maybe even making "New Solution Packs" for purchase would suffice. ;)

4. Question: I am unsure (having not yet played) if one Character's Booklets reference other Characters and vice-versa to weave the social aspects together. If I purchase an Additional Character Pack (Four Deuces), and only use one of the Extra Characters, will they not be "woven" into the game as well as the other players due to the fact that none of the existing players have any reference to them? Or does this not really matter?
