How do we know when the game ends?

We purchased the Santa Claus -- how do we know when the game is OVER? Does whoever figures it out first announce the fact and then that's it?

Also, what are guest supposed to do in the first 45 minutes prior to the dinner? Does the murderer already know who they are? Or do they find out that information in the packets they open AFTER the murder?

You can tell when things start winding down that it is time to wrap things up. For most of the night people will be running around having excited conversations. Once people feel they have accomplished what they want to do you will see people are quieter and start milling around. It is just one of those things you will feel. This is when you call everyone together and hand out the Guess Sheets. After everyone fills them out the Detective or Inspector will read the solution.

The Murderer knows they are the guilty culprit as soon as they see their first character sheet part. They know from the beginning. Prior to dinner people will be acting on the information in the first part of their sheets. This is more a time for people to start slipping into their characters and start feeling out the other people there. There will be things for them to do and this is stated in their sheets. After the murder when guests get the second part of their sheets things will really kick into gear :D
