30th BirthdayParty

Postby kissyhoper » November 18th, 2009, 12:04 pm

Our friend and sister turns 30 on Halloween and is mystery novel buff! We decided over a year ago that we would have a murder mystery! Around 5 months prior to the party we decided which party we wanted to go with! We picked the four deuces and away we went! We had decided to keep the party a secret almost all the way up to the date, we purchased the guest of honors dress and accessories had her try them on blindfolded. We revealed the big secret at the beginning of Oct as we knew there were things she also had to prepare for! We gave her the character Carrie Crooner! We also gave her the lyrics and music to a song we picked out and had her believing she was going to sing! We have a great second hand store that has a 50% off day every month and we purchased antique tea cups and then made wine glass charms with each characters name! We used those and a box of candy ciggy's and a bubble gum cigar a note pad we made a pen and the money as a party favor! We made a bar and found 3 vintage cocktails that were simple and made up a couple of our own as well as a "lightweight" menu. We did research on different popular foods and found many different candies/chocolates introduced in the 20's. Since this was a grand opening of a speak easy we decided to have a small buffet table with only appetizers from the 20's. We loved the idea of a car silouette and after searching for a big box my husband drew and cut one out! We also made a jazz band silouette as well as a dance floor/stage. The buzz with all the character and the little bit of info between them has made the wait for the actual party hard! We used her mom's garage as it was big enough for all of us and it was a clean slate to decorate. The party was a hit!! Everyone had a blast! Not one of the 18 guests figured out the murder! However they sure used their weapons! They mayor felt like the Inspector was doing his job too well and felt he need to be knocked off!! He was our second fatality of the night!! Al Capone stayed busy most of the night being hired to knock off others. Which made it harder to figure out who killed who! We had 3 other murders as well!! Our mayor had some serious sticky fingers and managed to walk away with wealthiest person!! We had a ton of fun and can't wait to do the sequel. We also decided to do the Class of '57 for a 60th birthday!

I am glad that you enjoyed yourselves so much. Too bad no one solved it, but our games really aren't about solving a murder. They are about having the most fun ever!

So tell me, was Carrie crying over Al or laughing

She was crying!

We had such a good time that we are in the beginning process of planning a 60th birthday using the class of '57.
And have also decided that we will plan the four deuces 2 for a NYE party as it is Mayor Bumpkins 60th birthday!
Thanks for being so creative!!
