Questions about the extra murders for a large group

Postby cvestal » December 26th, 2006, 5:35 pm

This is my first posting, and our first party. I don't know who is more excited, me, or our more than 50 guests! We purchased the four deuces and all the extra character packages, and still had to invent another 12 characters. (most are employed by the casino or the brothel!)

Our party is this weekend (the eve of the eve) and we have the lower level of our home as where the band, dance floor and a great casino area, the main level is where the food and clues will be and of course the loft area is the brothel will be.

(the shyest group of our friends are the working girls, so they may just enjoy visiting upstairs, but their character is to mingle with the other guests  I should clarify for people reading this post that we (Dinner and a Murder) do not actually create characters that work at the brothel. Not even our mature one does this. This was done by this particular host with characters they created themselves.

Your forum is very helpful, and as we have such a large group my husband and I are just "the hired help" and we will try to keep things running smoothly, but my question is regarding the weapons with a group this large.

When will give them the clues for the scavenger hunt for the extra weapons, and if they do murder someone, how have you all handled that situation?

Do you then make that one of the murders that need to be solved at the end of the night?

With another whodunit card?

Any suggestions will be helpful as that is the part that is sketchy for me.

(Yes...I'm getting obsessive about this party! )

thanks so much for your input and for such a great game.

For that many people I think I would handle things differently. Maybe have a hat with 46 blank paper strips the same size as the weapons plus the actual weapons cards & then have everyone draw from the hat. 4 people will draw the weapons cards instead of blank paper. A scavenger hunt for that many people would be chaos!

Your Host Guide does give instructions for handling additional murders. The Inspector also has instructions.

Do you then make that one of the murders that need to be solved at the end of the night?

I do provide an area on the Whodunit Cards to solve these if they wish. The one that really needs to be solved is the planned out murder. I really leave this up to the host. I like to print plenty of Certificates and give them to anyone who solves a murder. Any murder. You will find that even out of 50 you may only get 5-10 tops that will solve the original murder & about the same that might solve an additional murder. In our normal size parties of 15 the norm is only 2-4 that will solve it. They are not too easy, but not that hard either. People just get so caught up in scheming and plotting that investigating the murder gets forgotten.
